Glen Echo Park

Took a marathon (well “marathon” for me) bike ride yesterday. Managed to get myself up a little after 7am, eased into waking up, had some breakfast, then headed up to Great Falls National Park, Maryland. It was a little under 18 miles one way, so I clocked about 35 miles (56 kilometers) round trip, in about 3h10m of riding time. I stopped every now and then — including at Glen Echo Park — I was actually out of the house for five hours. Not quite ready for the long non-stop bike rides yet. Just trying to get some exercise in. I think the three hour “nap” I had when I got home means I got a workout.

Wonderful! From the dim past a bygone era’s answer to Internet video games?

Hahaha – indeed! It’s a great little place to stroll around. I’d like to get back up there at some point to shoot more photos using my DSLR. Only had my little camera with me on this trip.

Hadn’t seen the “gallery (4)” link (nice feature – new?) when I first commented. Is Glen Echo just a museum in the National Park? From the other photos, I realized it’s hardly a living amusement park! Maybe that’s what will happen to La Ronde in a few years!

When I was there it wasn’t officially open for the day as it was early in the morning, but there was staff here and there. From the little bit I’ve read, the Park hosts dances and gives classes in some of the buildings, but the only remaining operating ride is the Carousel. What little I know I read in the wikipedia entry.

Oh and yes, the gallery feature is new from today!
