Giant Panda
I hate zoos, I find them depressing. But inevitably if I’m in a city long enough that has one, I’ll check it out. This is at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park here in D.C. The zookeepers coat plastic crates with honey as apparently pandas like not just the honey, but knashing away with their teeth or something (and I think plastic milk crates are part of their natural habitat). They also apparently favour faux rocks as furniture and mountain murals for interior decor. No really, they’ve studied their apartments in the wild.
Only humans imprison other animals (not to mention our own kind) in unnatural, torturous confined spaces, and then proceed to rationalize this cruel behavior in the name of entertainment, science, justice, or “preservation of the species” (where the latter is newspeak for “last-ditch effort to remedy our work of evironmental destruction”). And zoos are not even high on the list of things we should answer for!
Sorry your photo provoked such a bleak comment. I’m sure you were saying much the same thing, but at least it had the merit of being humorous.
